Bet types explained
A betting slip can be built several ways, and each distributes risk differently. This page explains the core types with worked examples in zloty, so the differences are visible rather than merely named. The whole vertical is covered on the sports betting page.
Single
One event, one price. A 100 zl stake at 1.85 returns 185 zl, a profit of 85 zl. Simplicity is the point: the outcome depends on one situation rather than a chain of them. For anyone starting out, singles are the only format that allows an honest read on your own hit rate.
Accumulator, or parlay
Prices from several events multiply, and every leg has to land. Three legs at 1.80 give combined odds of 5.83 — a 100 zl stake returns 583 zl. It looks attractive and is marketed that way, but probabilities multiply too: three events at 55% each come to roughly 17% combined. Margin also compounds leg by leg, which makes the accumulator the most expensive format in the set over time.

Handicap
A handicap levels a contest by giving one side a virtual head start or deficit. The European version uses whole numbers and allows a draw once the handicap is applied. The Asian version uses halves and quarters, which removes the draw or splits the stake: at minus 0.25 half the stake runs on a level handicap and half on minus 0.5. Asian lines are harder to read and usually carry a lower margin — that is their main attraction.
Over under
A bet not on who wins but on how much happens: goals, points, games. A line of 2.5 goals means three is over and two is under. No winner needs picking; only tempo needs judging, which many find easier than identifying a favourite. Popular in basketball, where point totals are high, and in volleyball, where set counts matter.
System bets
A system is a set of smaller slips built from the same selections: a four-from-three system creates several three-leg combinations. The slip pays partially even when one selection misses. The cost is a higher total stake, because each combination is paid for separately. It is a variance-reduction tool, not a way to raise expected value.
What applies regardless of format
- Decimal odds are the Polish standard; odds are a stake multiplier, not a profit figure.
- Margin is charged per event, so it grows with the number of legs.
